Keeping food fresh in the scorching heat is a challenge for livestock farmers in Botswana. That’s precisely why TITAN’s Arctic SuperStore is such a hot tip.
THE CHALLENGE
The impeccable reputation of our modular Arctic SuperStore cold storage units had reached the Botswana Ministry of Agriculture, and they contacted us to inquire about their functionality.
We explained it briefly as follows: It’s a system where any combination of 20- or 40-foot ArcticStore containers (which can maintain temperatures from -40°C to +45°C) is assembled into a mobile cold storage facility.
All the interior walls of the containers can be opened, creating a vast, open space .
The ministry was intrigued.
Could this become an integral part of a new, state-of-the-art cattle and small livestock project in the country’s arid Kgalagadi region?
THE SOLUTION
This exciting land development project, with a total budget of US$15 million, aims to support both commercial and subsistence livestock farmers in the area . Furthermore, the project will create jobs and fair trade opportunities in the region.
We explained how five 40-foot ArcticStore containers placed side by side could form the core of the cold storage facility , and that a standalone ArcticBlast unit capable of blast freezing would be the ideal complement.
The ministry agreed and approved the project.
THE DELIVERY
A parking area with a stable base had been prepared on site for the arrival of our Arctic SuperStore . This made installation incredibly easy.
Surrounded by a group of new buildings with distinctive green roofs, our bright white superstore is visible for miles around .
Work on the site is still ongoing.
THE RESULTS
Once operational, the refrigeration system will enable the flash-freezing of 8 tons of beef and goat meat per day , ushering in a new era.
After packaging, a total of 80 tons of products can be safely stored in the SuperStore until they are ready for distribution on the Botswanan market or for shipment abroad.
